She can easily be a 5 star author if she just takes the extra steps and effort to get there. View 1 comment. Jo Raven never fails to twist her readers up with emotion and desires over her trouble bad boys so it was not a surprise to me that I fell so immediately and devastatingly hard for Jarett.

Because I had already met Gigi in previous books, I couldn't wait to get to know this girl that is full of sunshine and sass in equal doses and happens to be just what the dark and broody Jarett needs to live a better life and experience love.

It wasn't long and I was so enthralled with Bad Wolf and its Jo Raven never fails to twist her readers up with emotion and desires over her trouble bad boys so it was not a surprise to me that I fell so immediately and devastatingly hard for Jarett.

It wasn't long and I was so enthralled with Bad Wolf and its fictional world full of gangs, deception, unrequited love, and heat!

I was entertained while burning up with desire and wrapped up in nail biting suspense from the moment their story began! Jarett is a guy who has been down on his luck from day one.

From the moment he would find a family that would love him, something bad would happen and he would be back to where he started with a shortage of love and opportunities.

Between his broody nature, his fierce loyalty to those he loved, his dirty mouth, and his delicious body, I found myself wanting to cuddle the hell out of him and my mind going to very naughty places.

Jo Raven's heroes often illicit those two responses in me and stay with me long after their story is told. Must be why I am such a die hard fan of hers!

Augusta or Gigi as everyone calls her is a girl who has lived through her fair share of a painful past but has a family who loves her and chooses to live on the sunny side of life.

The only dark cloud that she still often thinks about in her world from a couple of years back is Jarett.. So when she happens upon a more sullen and dark version of Jarett, she finds herself scared to get to know him and to intrigued to turn away.

After meeting the handsome inked bad boy, who could blame her? There wasn't anything that I didn't absolutely adore about this heroine who puts her heart on the line and looks deep below the surface to see who Jarett really is.

She may seem all giggly and cute but she is fierce and sexy in her own way and isn't going to let Jarett forget it! Jo Raven delivers a suspenseful and sexy read that keeps your heart pounding and melting with every page.

You just never know what you are going to experience in the next chapter with these amazingly vivid characters, they could be tangled in the sheets, trying to run away from their feelings, or seconds away from danger.

I highly recommend Bad Wolf for a romance that offers the steam and the excitement. Jo Raven stories never cease to amaze me and draw me into a new world that I never want to leave and that I want to return to again and again.

I don't know how many times I have started, deleted and then started again to write this review. I haven't read a good Jo Raven book since Ink Babies.

In some ways Bad Wolf reminded me of bits of different previous characters. Though I honestly don't know if I truly liked this book or just read it because it was Jo Raven.

This is probably going to be one of my worst written reviews of the year. I liked Jarett's character, with I don't know how many times I have started, deleted and then started again to write this review.

I just don't know if I liked her or not. To be honest when I first started reading, I wondered where the hell this story was going.

There was definitely a slow burn which I kind of enjoyed. But still something was missing for me personally. I can't put my finger on it and hate that I can't figure out what is it.

Awe Rett I just love Jo Ravens tortured heroes and Jarett oh dear, I just wanted to hug him at times and make it all better. Jarett or Rett has been so unfortunate in life, first he loses his parents, goes into foster care then when he finally has a home he loses his foster dad too who was a police officer and got caught up in a shootout.

The guy has one misfortune after another. Gigi is the sister of Octavia, so if you have read previous books in this series you would have caught glimpses of Awe Rett Gigi is the sister of Octavia, so if you have read previous books in this series you would have caught glimpses of her.

Jarett is her boy next door, the guy who protects her from the bullies just by being in her presence, the guy who is like a puzzle she wants to solve, until she has to move away and doesn't see Jarett again until 2 years later.

Bad wolf is story of a destined reunion, a hero who is rescued by the heroin with a plot containing gang members, pressures, making the right decisions, being able to see the light after years of darkness and hardship, family values and a Cinderella story, only the Cinderella in this story is Rett.

A steady paced read with a good balance of angst and hotness in all the right places. Told in first persons dual pov and leads to a hea.

Looking forward to Gigi's brothers story next, Merc is a good guy, a loving brother so I'm interested to see we're Jo will go with him.

I was also left with unanswered questions re Sydney and her hunt for a missing friend? I didn't really get that part in the plot but hoping it will be revealed at some point.

This story had what I felt initially was a brief, slow build and I wasnt sure where it was going. Ummm I quickly overcame any misgivings.

Rett and Gigi are awesome. They felt real and behaved and thought like young people. Not immature but youthful and often naive, only looking at something from their own point of view.

This of course produces all kinds of emotions, bringing on the nostalgia. Rett is definitely one of her tortured young men that she writes so well sigh.

You will definitely route for him even when you see his poor choices. Gigi is a character we have met in previous stories.

In this book we really get to see how she has matured and her heart of gold. Yes there were several times I wanted to shake both Rett and Gigi. They gave this reader way too much anxiety and fearfulness of something bad happening.

Oh if you are looking for some hot and steamy interactions, well this author will never disappoint wink wink. The beautiful message of family was such an underlying element throughout this story.

Ugh it will tug at the heartstrings. Love reading after the story some of the detailed thoughts that went into the outline and writing of this story.

A definite must read. Happy Reading Everyone!!! This one was a bit of a slow build for me ijn the beginning but I quickly became hooked on the story.

I really loved Jarett and Gigi. He's the dangerous bad boy and she's the girl next door. I really enjoyed the darker story and it was full of angst so there was never a dull moment.

This book was given to me at my request and I provided this review voluntarily. Very sexy and so fun to read.

Bad Wolf is not the first book I've read from this author. I've loved all of the previous books I've read from her, so I expected this book to blow me away.

I was more frustrated than anything with this story. Jarett was too good a brother and son. He definitely deserved more than what he was given from his so called family.

I understood his "mom's" situation but I hated his brother Sebastian and really wished he was killed off.

From the very beginning of the story I wanted Jarett to give up on Bad Wolf is not the first book I've read from this author.

From the very beginning of the story I wanted Jarett to give up on his brother and not care. I disliked Sebastian that much and I didn't care about his "problem" Gigi was too clueless for her own good.

I didn't hate her character but I didn't love her either. I didn't care for her best friend Syndey either. However, I loved her brother Mercury, her mom and her sister.

This story was slower than I expected but it also had so much going on at the same time. This was not at all what I expected and although it wasn't a completely terrible read this was most definitely not my favorite read from this author.

However, I would still be reading more books from this author in the future because I enjoyed her other books just that much. This one just wasn't the right one for me.

This is a good story. Jarett and Gigi are the bad boy and good girl couple that anyone can fall in love with. This book has wonderful characters and a great storyline.

I will say that sometimes it was slow but not overly slow. We got to see some past characters and enjoyed new ones.

Good book overall. I voluntarily read an advance reader copy for my honest review. When Jo Raven says tortured guy, she means business Real tough business I have a big problem with Jo Raven's books and characters.

I read my first book Asher and fell in love, then read another book and fell in love too. Then read the next book and fell in love again My sweet boys and strong girls rip my heart to shreds and this week Jarett 5 stars, my heart feels as tortured as a Jo Raven guy Jeez, first things first Jarett and Gigi just waltzed all over the pieces and mashed them to a pulp of emotions.

Jaretts story stole my breath. Under his name, Ramona Badwolf is his daughter and will be the Big Bad Wolf, or as the Shannon Hale books calls, Big Badwolf, but since where she stands in the destiny conflict is still unknown, it is unknown if she doesn't want to follow her father's destiny - as in, if she's a Rebel.

Before becoming Red's husband, it was apparent that back in his younger years as a student at Ever After High , he had a crush on the Evil Queen.

It had also been hinted that Red had feelings for him back then as well, though he probably didn't reciprocate them until after their story started.

However, the book The Class of Classics directly contradicts this, portraying him as crushing on an uninterested Red before gaining her attention and affection by writing a play with her as a class assignment.

Badwolf growls at Hunter Huntsman , to Hunter's dismay. Along with Red Riding Hood, he meets one of his daughters, Cerise Hood in the Enchanted Forest where they commence their picnic, but they get interrupted by Hunter.

Staging an act, Badwolf flees, but returns after Hunter is gone. Cerise's Picnic Panic. He attends the Spring Fairest.

While the initial clues don't seem to lead the detectives anywhere, things slowly start to point towards a long reaching sex trafficking organization, that won't shy back from lashing out at anyone The details of the investigation, along with its many intricate and dramatic ramifications made for quite a riveting story.

The other three parallel Published in English as Bad Wolf Pia Kirchhoff gets called out of her high-school reunion party, to investigate the grisly murder of a young Jane Doe.

The other three parallel threads also held my attention for most of the book. The personal touch however, is still an issue in Ms.

Neuhaus' crime novels. Maybe it's a problem with characters in German books showing emotion differently from their American counterparts. Or perhaps it's the language subtleties that still evade me.

Don't get me wrong, I was horrified at the details of all the sex trafficking, but I didn't necessarily care for any specific character in particular.

And what happened to Bodenstein's screen time? The author seems to have forgotten about him a third way in, and only remembered that he was one of the titular characters at the end; ironically getting frustrated with not being kept in the loop.

Let's hope this is not a sign that he'll be getting phased out in the future All in all, I guess I'm closer to having liked the book, than feeling the need for nitpicking its faults.

Which is my way of saying that this was one of the better mysteries of the series. So you should definitely give it a go. Turns out, there is one already, but it has Pia reduced to a mother-figure, while Bodenstein solves the whole case by himself.

Pretty tone deaf, for an episode tackling such a sensitive topic as the sexual trafficking of young girls.

For those of you interested, the TV series is called Taunuskrimi , and the images posted in the review are stills from episode 7 part 2 of the Böser Wolf arc.

If there is one series that I wholeheartedly recommend reading if you are a fan of crime novels is it this one. So far, have I read 3 books, and all of them are 5-star books.

This is the second book I read. The only sad thing is that not all the books are translated into English nor Swedish. Both when it comes to the case as Pia Kirchhoff and Oliver von Bodenstein private lives.

I'm always intrigued by stories that take a while before you started to see a pattern. Like a puzzle, you slowly start to put the pieces together and as the story progresses you start to realize the truth.

In this case, you have quite early one a feeling of dread. Nele Neuhaus has such a fabulous ability to write that I get so engrossed in what is going on that I just devour her books.

I found this book to be a bit hard to read, not because of the writing, but because of the subject. It's not the monster under the bed that is frightening, it's the one walking in plain sight out in the sun.

It's the bad wolf that is hiding in plain sight that we should be wary of View all 5 comments. Dec 31, Ashley rated it really liked it.

I received this book in my BookCase. Club subscription, and I'm a little torn between rating it three stars or four stars.

When I was reading the book, it was really good and I wanted to read more. However, when I wasn't reading it, I wasn't particularly yearning to pick it back up and put my nose between its pages.

It took me a month to finish and it wasn't even that long. I really wish Goodreads would allow half star votes because I think this would be a solid 3.

There were a lot of I received this book in my BookCase. There were a lot of characters in this book who seemed to have no connection with each other for quite awhile.

It was very difficult to keep up with each story line - especially since I would go long periods between readings.

The plots did eventually merge and made complete sense when they did. The ending wasn't a huge surprise, however, since there were many hints along the way.

I do feel that the book could have ended about pages sooner than it did. I didn't realize until I finished the book that this is the sixth book in a series.

The original was written in German, and only two books of the series have been translated to English - the other being Snow White Must Die.

It does kind of annoy me that the cover and front pages of the book did not mention that it is part of a series. I would prefer to start at 1, but since only 4 and 6 have been translated, I suppose that is a moot point.

View 2 comments. Publishers do both the author and their readers a disservice when they opt to translate series out of order.

Snow White Must Die was the first book authored by Nele Neuhaus to be released in English with this, Big Bad Wolf, the second, but in the original German the titles are the 4th and 6th respectively and I'm irritated by the resultant gaps.

While it is true that the cases the team investigates are resolved within the framework of a single novel, the characters personal stories are ongoing Publishers do both the author and their readers a disservice when they opt to translate series out of order.

While it is true that the cases the team investigates are resolved within the framework of a single novel, the characters personal stories are ongoing and the missing details do have an effect on my enjoyment of, and my attachment to, the series.

With that rant out of my system As is Nuehaus's habit, she begins Big Bad Wolf by introducing several seemingly unrelated characters and incidents, which slowly merge as the story unfolds.

These include the discovery of a dead girl whose autopsy reveals signs of extensive and sustained abuse, an unscrupulous television host on the trail of a big story, a convicted pedophile on parole, a bikie gang leader, a woman worried about the changes in the behaviour of both her husband and daughter, and a vindictive Internal Affairs officer.

As Chief Detective Inspector Pia Kirchoff and her partner, Detective Oliver von Bodenstein, investigate they begin to piece together the details of a horrific conspiracy which threatens to overwhelm them both.

With the large cast and multiple story threads, Big Bad Wolf can initially feel a little overcrowded and disjointed, but patience is eventually rewarded if you persevere.

The story slowed for me around the middle, chiefly because I made the main connections very early and as such felt as if I was waiting for Pia and her team to catch up, but the shifts in character perspective ensures the pace rarely lags.

The conclusion is tense and dramatic, but not as neat as may be expected. Though rarely explicit, I found I had to put the book down at times and take a deep breath, finding some elements of the story emotionally distressing.

Though the framework of this novel is fiction, it explores the horrifying reality of sexual violence against children and the extent of the network that trades in it.

Overall, I thought Big Bad Wolf to be an absorbing and satisfying police procedural, though the premise is challenging and may be difficult for some readers.

The translation is skilful, I only wish I had the opportunity to read the fifth novel to eliminate the gaps in the development of Pia and Oliver's character.

Im not saying that I cant analyse a novel like this one you can analyse every text , I just think at times some light reading is needed. Big Bad Wolf tells the story of a crime that happened on the river Main near Frankfurt.

Investigators Pia Kirchhoff and Oliver von Bodenstein are back to investigate the crime, as the case progresses they find it taking them into a pit of evil and cruelty in the midst of a middle class utopia.

I am trying to make an effort to read more translated fiction; I loved Snow White Must Die which is book four in the series but only the first one to be translated into English.

That is what fascinated me but Big Bad Wolf is just another crime novel. There are some decent moments in Big Bad Wolf, some unexpected twists but I wanted more.

The novel is darker than most popular crime novels but keeps to the standard formula. One thing I did find difficult about this novel was the amount of view points, making it difficult at times to understand what was going on but this is an acceptable method for building suspense.

Nov 03, Paromjit rated it it was amazing Shelves: crime-fiction. This is a novel that uncovers the ugly and depraved practices of child abuse and paedophilia amongst the well heeled and politically powerful.

It is organised as an international business on an industrial scale. The story takes a little time to really take off, but that is because several pieces of the plot are laid out to follow throughout the novel.

The recurring characters of Pia and Oliver, from Snow White Must Die, are investigating the murder of a young horrifically abused young girl dumped in the river.

More bodies and torture follow as a group of very powerful men endeavour to stay undetected and continue their evil practices. For Pia, events turn extremely personal near the end.

A well researched and intricately plotted story about the evil that exists in society and how deeply entrenched it is. This is the second book, I have read by the author and I can thoroughly recommend it.

This is a book I was supposed to receive as an ARC by a crime reading club but somehow got lost in the mail, which annoyed me an awefull lot. So when I found an English copy in the American bookstore in Amsterdam in bargain bin I hesitated not at all.

This kinda reeks of a Jo Nesbo scenario where the books have been published in English out of order. Anyhow the two lead characters being police officers get involved in the murder of a young girl whose body gets found in the river.
